Go for a bracing walk below the cliffs and search for gemstones along the beach. Visit the Gemstone and Fossil Museum to identify your treasure. Cook hearty meals in the well appointed kitchen used by chefs Logan Brown in TV series "Hunger for the Wild". Then take in that view again. This is a peaceful retreat, you deserve it. Facilities:

BeachcombingBirdlings Flat is world renowned for the abundant mineral and gems stones specimens that wash up after big storms. They are washed down the Rakaia, Ashburton, Hinds, and Rangitata Rivers. Agate from Hampden beach, Rhodonite from Dunedin and a piece of Fossil Coral from the Otago region all end up at Birdlings Flat. Facilities: |

Wild foodLocal supermarket is in Halswell where there is also an excellent butcher. The kitchen is well appointed and has all the tools to cook a great meal. Logan Brown used it for their second series of Hunger for the Wild where they cooked eel from the lake and ate it in our dining room. Facilities: |
